A town built around its springs

There are few places where you can find so many mineral springs in such a small area. Dozens of natural mineral springs emerge directly in Mariánské Lázně, with many more to discover in the surrounding countryside.

Each spring differs in its mineral composition and taste, and it was these natural resources that gave rise to the town's famous spa tradition. One of the great advantages is that you do not need to undertake a demanding hike to discover many of them – they can easily be visited during a relaxing walk through the town.

Cross Spring – one of the icons of Mariánské Lázně

If you only have time to taste a few of the springs during your visit, Cross Spring should definitely be one of them.

It is one of the most famous mineral springs in Mariánské Lázně and its history goes back centuries. As early as 1749, records from Teplá Monastery referred to it as a “salty acidulous spring”.

Today you will find it in an elegant pavilion close to the main spa colonnade. Its characteristic and distinctive taste may remind you from the very first sip just how different natural mineral water can taste from ordinary bottled water.

Our tip

Bring a traditional spa cup with you and taste the individual springs one by one. Each has a slightly different flavour and its own character. Which one will become your favourite?

Karolina and Rudolph Springs – spa classics

Just a few steps from the main colonnade, you can continue to Karolina Spring. It was named in honour of Karolina Augusta, wife of Emperor Francis I, and today it is one of the popular stops on a walk through the spa centre.

Nearby you can also taste Rudolph Spring. Comparing the individual springs and their very different flavours can be an enjoyable part of your spa walk.

Ambrose Springs – a romantic stop in the park

Another lovely stop is Ambrose Springs, located in the greenery of the spa park below the Central Spa.

They are sometimes also known as the Springs of Love. Several springs emerge here and the pleasant surroundings invite you to stop and relax for a while. If you are exploring Mariánské Lázně as a couple, this is definitely a place to add to your itinerary.

Forest Spring – peace and greenery

From the busier colonnades, you can head towards the greenery. Forest Spring is located in a Neo-Classical pavilion near Třebízského Street.

The walk itself highlights one of the greatest charms of Mariánské Lázně – the spa centre gradually blends into beautiful parks and surrounding forests. The bustle of the promenade slowly fades away, leaving you surrounded by greenery, tranquillity and the unmistakable spa atmosphere.

Ferdinand Spring – away from the main colonnade

Ferdinand Spring in Úšovice is also well worth a visit. It is one of the historically important springs of Mariánské Lázně and is located in a beautiful Neo-Classical colonnade surrounded by a park.

Compared with the most visited places in the town centre, the atmosphere here tends to be quieter, making Ferdinand Spring an ideal destination for a separate walk. The colonnade and its surroundings are also among the most photogenic places in Mariánské Lázně.
